Partworks covering more than one Aircraft Type
- Aircraft in Profile - Publisher: Profile Publications (1960's and 70's). 261 booklets of 12+ pages (also published in
bound volumes). Gives an illustrated history of a particular type with photos and colour drawings (usually a 3-view
with several side views). Some of the colour drawings (e.g. Hudson) can be suspect but otherwise a good reference.
- Camouflage and Markings - A series of 12 booklets covering camouflage and markings of RAF Fighter Command in NW Europe type by type.
- Warpaint - Publisher: Warpaint Books Ltd. A series of booklets giving a history, photographs, colour drawings and scale plans
of a particular type.
Magazines covering more than one Aircraft Type
- Scale Aircraft Modelling - Publisher: currently Guideline. Has an Aircraft in Detail feature in each issue which gives
an illustrated history of (usually) a single aircraft type with photos and side view drawings (originally B+W, now colour). Most major RAF
WWII types have now been featured. Also occasionally has RAF Squadron histories.
- Airfix Magazine - no longer published. Ran many series of articles, e.g. Squadron codes, Fighting Colours, Bombing
Colours, Army Air Colours, RAF Vehicles. Many of these were later published in book form.
- Air International - monthly publication originally named Air Enthusiast. From 1971 to the mid 90's mixed current news
with one or two historical features, notably a series of articles named 'Warbirds' which gave an illustrated history of
a single type with photos and (small) 3-view plans. Now concentrates on current topics.
- Air Enthusiast - originally launched as Air Enthusiast Quarterly alongside Air International with articles concentrating
on historic / vintage topics, usually more narrowly focussed than the 'Warbirds' features in Air International.
- Aviation News - initially a newspaper format, latterly an A4 mgazine which ceased publication for a while and was then
revived as part of Air Pictorial and has now taken over from Air Pictorial. Almost every issue contains a 'Warpaint'
feature with 1:72 scale plans and some colour schemes.
- There are many other modelling and aviation magazines (e.g. Flypast, Scale Aviation Modeller, Scale Models) which
have in depth features on RAF WWII aircraft and associated topics but I can't call to mind any series of articles
worth noting separately, partly because I don't have many issues of them (if you do know of anything then let me know
and I'll add them to the list).
